This project is a kitchen design for The Wilsons, an older couple that is retired. They both love their home and the neighborhood. The design objective is to upgrade the kitchen into a safe and functional space. They both enjoy cooking, especially Asian dishes and love entertaining with family. Mr. Wilson can walk but also uses a wheelchair.
The Wilsons’ fun and energetic personalities inspired the design. The design takes their love of colors and the ‘50s and turns it into a nostalgic paradise with all the modern conveniences. To keep the Wilsons in their home for many years, accessibility was the primary concern. The design includes a ramp, mobility assist chairs, low and accessible appliances, and accessible sink and counter tops.
